First Friday Devotion
First Friday is the devotion of receiving Holy Communion on consecutive first Fridays for nine months in honor of the Sacred Heart. This practice arose following one of the promises made by Christ to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque by which one gains the grace of repentance, an assurance of receiving the last sacraments, and the consolation of the love of Christ’s Sacred Heart at the time of death.
This prayer group meets every First Friday in the chapel following morning Mass, during the school year. For more information, contact Kathy Wendel by email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
First Saturday Devotion
This devotion began after the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima in 1917. Those who practice this devotion are to receive Holy Communion on the first Saturday of each month, to receive the Sacrament of Penance within eight days before or after this day, recite five decades of the rosary, and make a fifteen minute meditation on one of the mysteries of the rosary. Saturday has been the traditional day of devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This prayer group meets every First Saturday following morning Mass.
